North America and Turkey
Thomas Fant’s customer base comprises board, tissue and specialty mills in Finland and Northern Europe. He also has customers in Poland and Slovakia. Based in Finland, he has a background in machinery supply and the pulp industry, which is very useful in his daily work.
“We have optimised recipes and refining, carried out various test runs and organised training for our Turkish customers. Added value services such as these are increasingly important in export markets, where customers want their competitiveness to improve continuously.”
Juho Rossi, who works at the Äänekoski bioproduct mill, is responsible for North America and Turkey. He was previously in charge of technical customer service in Europe. Rossi has also worked in paper and paperboard production at Metsä Board. Metsä Fibre has long-term tissue customers in Turkey, who appreciate high-quality, sustainably produced pulp grades. They have also visited Finland to acquaint themselves with production.

“We are in frequent contact with our customers, sometimes on a weekly basis. It is our task to understand the customer’s needs and convey the information to our production.”
“North America is a new market area, and the coronavirus pandemic and travel restrictions forced us to handle it remotely for a long time. We will begin to organise customer meetings as soon as possible.”
Seppo Ruostemaa settled down in Wiesbaden, near Frankfurt, a year ago. Tissue producers from France, Germany, Italy and Spain make up the bulk of his customer base. Some of his customers also have production in Eastern Europe. Ruostemaa’s professional roots are also in pulp. Before moving to TCS he worked as development engineer at Metsä Fibre’s Rauma pulp mill.
“They appreciate our familiarity with their products and production processes, as well as our ability to cooperate on development projects.”
THOMAS FANT
“I know pulp production and the related technology through and through. It helps me quickly come up with answers for customers wondering about all the different applications of our pulp.”
TARI VÄÄTÄINEN
Tari Väätäinen takes care of Metsä Fibre’s printing paper customers. She is also in charge of the Fibre Online service and related development work. Väätäinen has a strong background in pulp. She joined Metsä back in the mid-1990s, in connection with the Rauma pulp mill project. Over the years, she has become familiar with aspects related to the environment, as well as research and development.
“I work at the customer interface, relaying messages between customers and the pulp mills. Many of our customer relationships began long ago. When there’s trust, even the most difficult problems can be solved.”
