A consignment warehouse of Sun Paper. The company is striving to create products that are lighter, stronger and greener.
“Our featured products are all premium ones that can be used for food, cigarettes and industrial packaging. The growth of the market will also push us to develop more high-quality products,” says Li. Producers of high-end products will be better off than those who work in lower-grade market segments where the main raw material is recycled paper. “Nowadays, another market trend is emerging in China. This is the demand for upgrades in packaging. As the pop- ulation is aging, the need for packaging in medicine and cosmetic products is on the rise. I am confident that com- panies like Metsä Fibre will provide innovative packaging solutions,” McClay says. INNOVATION AND SUSTAINABILITY “The competitive advantage of the Sun Paper Group in the future lies in innovation. The company has a world- class, hard-working and loyal team that places high value on safety, environmental friendliness and quality,” says Li. In his global strategy plan, innovation is one of the key elements in the race for Sun Paper to become the market leader. The company is moving fast in biomaterials and
FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods) and is exploring the possibility of opening a biorefinery. Recently the Sun Paper Group launched the next gen- eration of food packaging cardboard, which can be used in containers for hot drinks and drinks, ice-cream and meal boxes. “This product can be used for making cups directly, which is more effective in production and energy conser- vation. This brings a safe, economic and environmentally friendly experience to our clients,” says Li. He believes the product reflects the organization’s com- mitment to sustainability. “We are working hard on developing products that are lighter, stronger and greener in order to lower our carbon emissions and the consumption of raw materials.” SUN PAPER AND METSÄ FIBRE: STRONG PARTNERSHIP Brian McClay believes the global packaging market is moving forward to provide sustainable solutions. “The whole idea is to replace plastics in packaging solu- tions. It is obvious that electronics that need long-haul transportation cannot just be put in a plastic box,” he says.
