RFID improves traceability

The information carried by the small tag allows us to track pulp bales from the mill all the way to the customer.

THE RFID TAG IS ATTACHED TO A BALE The tag includes a batch number which shows Metsä Fibre’s specialists where each batch is headed to and what the technical properties of each batch are.

AT THE PORT OF DEPARTURE The port operator reads the RFID tags and checks to which customer each batch is headed for. After this, the bales are loaded onto a ship.

RFID READ

LOADING AND TRANSPORT TO A HARBOUR The bales are loaded onto a truck which transports them to customers in Finland, or onto trains which transport them to harbours for further transportation.

RFID READ

hand-held reader

The RFID tags are scanned with a forklift or gate reader or a hand-held reader.

RADIO FREQUENCY IDENTIFICATION The details of the batch of pulp are encoded as a long string of numbers into the tag. When the tag is read in a port or at a customer’s production unit, Metsä Fibre’s system connects the correct quality data to the string of numbers and sends the data to FibreOnline, through which the customer can view the quality details of the pulp bales.
